StarkWare Pulls Off First Quantum-Resistant Bitcoin Transaction on Mainnet
StarkWare has successfully completed the first quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction on the mainnet without changing Bitcoin's consensus rules.
The method, developed by StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy, uses signature grinding to generate a valid signature that avoids exposing vulnerable public-key information to a future quantum attacker.
This approach is designed to protect coins against an attacker equipped with a sufficiently capable quantum computer and can be used as an interim defense until a permanent upgrade is implemented.
However, the process is far from practical for everyday Bitcoin transfers, requiring hours of computation and making it deliberately expensive.
