StarkWare Pulls Off Quantum-Resistant Bitcoin Transaction on Mainnet
StarkWare has successfully processed a transaction on the Bitcoin mainnet using its Quantum Safe Bitcoin (QSB) technology. The transaction, worth 10,000 satoshis, was quantum-resistant and did not require any changes to Bitcoin's existing consensus rules or a soft fork, hard fork, or core protocol upgrade. According to StarkWare, processing this transaction required several hours of GPU computation and cost around $150-$200.
StarkWare Chief Executive Officer Eli Ben-Sasson said he still wants Bitcoin to adopt a soft fork, although the company was able to process the quantum-resistant transaction without one. The Quantum Safe Bitcoin technology adds conditions to transactions designed to defend against attacks by quantum computers. This breakthrough highlights the potential for QSB to make Bitcoin more secure in the future.
