StarkWare Pulls Off Quantum-Resistant Transaction on Bitcoin Network
On August 26, StarkWare successfully executed a quantum-resistant transaction on the Bitcoin network. This feat was achieved using a method developed by Avihu Levy, a researcher at StarkWare.
The transaction was carried out by MARA via the Slipstream service and was sent directly to the miner due to its non-standard nature. The company believes that users' assets will remain safe until the Bitcoin network adopts post-quantum cryptography, which they consider the best path forward.
Levy's approach does not require protocol-level changes and relies on hash functions for security. It involves binding a transaction to its contents and using a public key to verify the signature. The scheme requires significant computation off-chain and is estimated to cost tens or hundreds of dollars in compute costs.
