Stellar Takes Lead in Non-US Government Debt Tokenization
Stellar has taken the lead in tokenizing non-US government debt on-chain, surpassing Ethereum with over $520 million worth of sovereign debt tokens issued. This milestone comes as a result of the network's low fees and fast finality, making it an attractive choice for issuers looking to move cross-border instruments quickly and cheaply.
The majority of this growth can be attributed to platforms such as Etherfuse, which have been issuing 'Stablebonds' - tokenized funds backed by short-term government debt from multiple countries. These bonds include Mexican CETES, Brazilian Tesouro bonds, European government paper, and South Korean Treasury Bonds (KTBs), among others.
The addition of Circle's USDC to the Stellar network provides a seamless on-ramp for dollar liquidity without the need for wrapped tokens. This integration gives Stellar an advantage in tokenization, particularly in the non-US government debt space.
