Stellar's Major Upgrade Promises Easier Smart Contract Development
The Stellar network is gearing up for a major upgrade, dubbed Protocol 28, which promises to make it easier for developers to build and scale smart contracts on the blockchain.
The Adapter protocol, as it's called, includes three key changes: CAP-83, CAP-85, and CAP-86. The latter two are designed specifically with builders in mind, aiming to simplify the process of writing, upgrading, and scaling smart contracts on Stellar.
CAP-85 introduces atomic upgrades for fleets of contracts, allowing users to update shared executable references once and upgrade multiple contracts at once. Meanwhile, CAP-86 makes contract data migrations easier by reducing the number of contracts users have to deploy.
The third change, CAP-83, focuses on improving consensus performance under load, enabling validators to keep the network moving even when transaction data is slow to propagate. This enhancement will help Stellar scale more efficiently as it continues to grow.
