Step App, the move-to-earn fitness platform built on Avalanche, is shutting down its operations after nearly four years. The platform will cease all services on August 21, ending a run that once promised to turn daily physical activity into a passive income stream.

The platform, which went live on mainnet in December 2022, attracted over 300,000 users from more than 100 countries who collectively tracked over 140 billion steps. Two tokens powered the ecosystem: FITFI, used as the governance and utility token, and KCAL, operating within a wellness marketplace.

With services ending on August 21, the utility backing both tokens evaporates, rendering governance rights in FITFI and KCAL market valueless. The platform's users got their exercise, but whether they secured adequate financial returns is uncertain.
