Stock Market Recovery Hints at End to Week's Volatility
The stock market showed signs of recovery on Friday as US equities steadied and Treasury yields stopped climbing. Bitcoin rallied past $77,000, up more than 20% for the week, making it its best weekly gain since 2023.
The S&P 500 was up 0.6% by midday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average outperformed, climbing 423 points to 53,182.17. The Nasdaq 100 lagged behind, inching up just 0.1%, as chip stocks remained under pressure.
The small-cap Russell 2000 rose 0.7% to 3,011.99, extending its year-to-date gain of more than 21%. Gold prices jumped 2.1% to $4,609.70 an ounce, a three-month high, as the dollar index headed for a weekly loss of nearly 1%.
