Strategy Aims to Leverage Bitcoin as Digital Energy in Corporate Finance
Strategy Chairman Michael Saylor has again emphasized his vision for Bitcoin as a foundational asset underpinning corporate credit and capital structure. In recent comments, he described Bitcoin's biggest innovation as its ability to digitize 'economic energy' and securely bind it to entities such as individuals, families, companies, machines, and nations.
Saylor's remarks align with Strategy's recent moves, which include aggressively accumulating Bitcoin and expanding into a financial ecosystem that raises funds and designs capital structures based on the cryptocurrency. Strategy currently holds 844,047 Bitcoin, approximately 4% of the maximum supply of 21 million, valued at $64.9 billion.
The company is also building its 'digital credit' business using its large Bitcoin holdings, issuing perpetual preferred shares that provide dividend income with Bitcoin as a financial foundation. The size of related products amounts to $13.37 billion, but the strategy has not been smooth. Strategy's flagship product, STRC, fell below its par value of $100 before recovering to the $96 level.
