Strategy Bitcoin Holdings Briefly Return to Profit Amidst Market Volatility
Strategy Bitcoin Holdings briefly returned to an unrealized profit on August 21 after Bitcoin's price rose above their aggregate acquisition cost. The company disclosed that it owns 840,447 BTC with an average purchase price of $75,385, including fees and expenses. At a market value of $63.55 billion, Strategy's Bitcoin holdings were approximately $191.6 million in profit at the time, though this figure is highly sensitive to changes in Bitcoin's price.
A $1,000 change in Bitcoin shifts the treasury's market value by roughly $840.4 million, making it essential for Strategy to maintain a narrow cushion above its cost basis. On August 17, Strategy reported an aggregate purchase cost of $63.36 billion for their Bitcoin holdings, with no purchases or sales made between August 10 and August 16.
Meanwhile, the BitMine Ethereum treasury remains far below its estimated average cost, carrying an unrealized loss of approximately $5.79 billion at an Ether price of $2,370. To reach its estimated average purchase price of $3,366, Ethereum would need to rise about 42% from its current price.
