Strategy Bitcoin Suffers $8 Billion Paper Loss Amid Crypto Volatility
Strategy Bitcoin's treasury continued to expand despite reporting an $8.22 billion second-quarter paper loss due to lower Bitcoin prices.
The company's operating loss was $8.33 billion, a significant decrease from the $14.03 billion in operating income posted in the same period last year when Bitcoin prices were higher and generated unrealized gains.
Strategy Bitcoin sold approximately $218.4 million worth of BTC through its recently launched monetization program to meet some of its preferred stock dividends, with about $216 million of those sales taking place post-second-quarter.
The company's CEO, Phong Le, stated that the minimal sales did not reflect a change in the Bitcoin acquisition program but an attempt at financial flexibility without losing the long-term treasury agenda.
