Strategy Blasts MSCI's Proposal to Exclude It from Global Indexes
Strategy, a Bitcoin-focused firm and one of the world's largest corporate holders of Bitcoin, has strongly criticized Morgan Stanley Capital International's (MSCI) proposal to remove it from the Global Investable Market Indexes. The move would affect firms with significant digital asset holdings, including Strategy, which holds 845,050 bitcoins valued at $65.8 billion at current prices.
The company argues that MSCI is discriminating against businesses involved in digital assets and claims the proposal is arbitrary and lacks clear justification. In a letter sent to MSCI, Strategy founder Michael Saylor and CEO Phong Le stated that 'If adopted, the proposal would have no meaningful impact on our business, but it would profoundly harm MSCI's reputation as a reliable and neutral index provider.'
Strategy also argued that MSCI is introducing unprecedented definitions to classify its Bitcoin holdings as 'non-operating,' which would unfairly single out digital asset treasury firms. The company noted its status as an operating entity with 1,500 personnel worldwide and emphasized that it actively manages a substantial Bitcoin reserve to deliver long-term shareholder value.
