Strategy Breaks Even on Bitcoin Holdings as Crypto Markets Rally
Strategy's massive Bitcoin holdings have regained profitability as the cryptocurrency's price pushed above $75,000. The business intelligence firm turned Bitcoin treasury company now has approximately $192 million in unrealized gains on its 840,447 BTC, which were acquired at an average cost of $75,385 per coin.
This marks a significant milestone for Strategy, whose stock price has become closely tied to crypto market fluctuations. The company's balance sheet position has flipped from a loss to a gain, with the current Bitcoin price of $75,613 sitting just above its average cost basis.
Strategy's recovery stands in stark contrast to BitMine's Ethereum holdings, which remain deeply underwater despite the recent rally in crypto markets. BitMine's 5,815,164 ETH, acquired at an average cost of $3,366 per token, now sits at a staggering unrealized loss of approximately $5.792 billion due to Ethereum's current price of $2,370.
The diverging fortunes of these two corporate crypto treasuries highlight the sensitivity of their balance sheets to entry price and timing. Strategy accumulated its Bitcoin holdings gradually over time, keeping its average cost lower relative to today's price, while BitMine concentrated its Ethereum purchases at a higher average cost of $3,366.
