Strategy Buys Back Discounted STRC Shares as Bitcoin Accumulation Pauses
Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has paused its Bitcoin accumulation for five weeks but is using part of its $1 billion preferred-stock repurchase program to buy back its own discounted stock. The company purchased 288,930 STRC shares for $25 million between July 20 and July 26 at an average price of $86.52 per share.
The STRC shares were acquired at a significant discount to their stated value of $100, with Strategy's CEO Phong Le stating that repurchases below $100 can reduce future preferred dividend obligations while allowing the company to remove the securities from its capital structure at a discount.
This move comes as Strategy has not purchased any Bitcoin for the past five weeks, its longest hiatus since 2024. Despite this pause, the company remains the largest public holder of Bitcoin with 843,775 BTC acquired at an average purchase price of $75,476 per coin.
