Strategy CEO Defends Selling Bitcoin at $64,000 as Right Trade
Strategy CEO Phong Le recently spoke to Bloomberg Television about his company's approach to managing its portfolio, particularly when it comes to holding Bitcoin (BTC).
Le explained that Strategy does not make decisions based directly on Bitcoin's price, but rather focuses on strengthening its balance sheet. In early August 2026, the company sold a total of 3,328 BTC at an average price slightly above $64,000.
This sale was part of a two-way strategy, which Le emphasized is a key aspect of Strategy's approach to capital management. He stated that 'at that time, it was the right trade' to sell Bitcoin and fund part of the dividend payments on preferred instruments.
After selling its BTC holdings at $64,000, Strategy purchased an additional 4,603 BTC in late August at an average price of $80,318. This move brought the company's overall portfolio value above $75,678 per BTC.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Le also addressed concerns about MSCI benchmarks, which have been attempting to remove crypto treasuries from its indexes. Strategy opposes this decision and aims to maintain its status as a fully-fledged operating company with two-way capital management capabilities.
