Strategy Considers Selling Up to $1.25 Billion Worth of Bitcoins
Strategy, the largest public corporate holder of Bitcoin, is considering selling up to $1.25 billion worth of its tokens as part of a liquidity reserve strategy. This move marks a significant shift from its previous policy of accumulating more cryptocurrencies. The company's shares rose by over 12% on Monday, reaching $93.42, after it announced two buyback programs and the potential sale of part of its Bitcoin reserves.
The company intends to alternate between issuing new securities when raising capital is attractive and buying back existing ones when their value increases. This decision aims to strengthen Strategy's balance sheet by reducing its reliance on expensive shares and other financing instruments. The market has been watching Strategy's actions closely, as its valuation is directly linked to the price of Bitcoin.
Strategy's CEO, Phong Le, stated that the company will now be more cautious in issuing common shares if they are trading at levels close to the value of its Bitcoin holdings. This new framework policy is seen by some analysts as a sign that Strategy is managing Bitcoin with discipline and liquidity awareness, rather than an ideological position.
