Strategy Director Cash-Out Reflects Personal Gain, Not Shift in Corporate Outlook
Jarrod Patten, Strategy's Director of Strategy, sold approximately $10.4 million worth of company stock this year, according to Bitcoin Treasuries data. The sales were tied to stock options granted in 2016 and 2017, before the company transformed into a Bitcoin-focused treasury.
The shares sold by Patten were acquired through the exercise of stock options awarded during his tenure as MicroStrategy. These options, granted nearly a decade ago, have since appreciated significantly, coinciding with the company's aggressive accumulation of Bitcoin and the subsequent surge in its stock price.
Bitcoin Treasuries reported 31 transactions that executed across these sales, which appear to be routine monetization of expiring or vested options. However, the timing and scale have drawn attention because they occur against the backdrop of Strategy's pivot to becoming the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin.
