Strategy Drops $139 Million on STRC Repurchase
Strategy's Michael Saylor recently revealed that his company spent $139 million repurchasing its own variable-rate perpetual preferred stock, STRC. The move was disclosed in an 8-K filing with the SEC on September 14, 2026.
The STRC shares were issued by Strategy as a way to raise capital and grow its BTC reserves. When STRC trades at a premium, the company issues new shares to buy more BTC for its treasury. Saylor hopes that STRC will climb back towards par and be sold again for a premium, allowing Strategy to issue new shares and buy more bitcoin.
As of September 13, 2026, Strategy held 845,050 BTC and $6.4 billion in USD assets. The company's USD duration is approximately 3.9 years. Saylor also mentioned that STRC's BTC credit would be 57 bps assuming a 10% BTC annual return rate, 40% BTC volatility, and a BTC price of $77,266.
The last time Strategy bought BTC was on August 31, 2026, when it acquired 4,603 BTC. Saylor's move to defend STRC by repurchasing shares has been seen as an effort to support the stock and potentially drive its value back up.
