Strategy Drought: Six Weeks Without Buying Bitcoin
Strategy, an entity known for its consistent Bitcoin buying habits, has gone six consecutive weeks without making any purchases. This marks its longest period of inactivity since at least 2024. The last time it bought Bitcoin was during the week of June 15-21, when it acquired 520 BTC at an average price of $67,068 per coin.
Since then, Strategy's buying machine has remained dormant. This pause is significant because Strategy had consistently been in accumulation mode earlier this year, with substantial buys in the first half of 2026.
The company has not commented on why it's halted its buying spree, but sources suggest that it's prioritizing strengthening its liquidity position over further Bitcoin accumulation. Its USD reserve has grown to $4.0 billion as of August 2, while preferred-stock dividend obligations have increased sharply.
Strategy has executed three separate Bitcoin sales under its monetization program in 2026, totaling approximately 5,226 BTC and generating roughly $321 million in proceeds. These sales were all completed below the company's average cost basis, meaning it realized losses on each tranche to service preferred dividends and related obligations.
The last comparable multi-week pause in accumulation occurred during the 2022 bear market. Strategy later resumed its buying, and Bitcoin went on to reach an all-time high near $126,000 in October 2025.
