Strategy Fights MSCI Proposal Targeting Treasury Stocks
Strategy, the largest Bitcoin treasury company in the world, has asked MSCI to withdraw its proposal that could remove digital asset treasury firms from major stock indices. The proposal, which targets companies labeled as non-operating, would exclude Strategy and other similar firms from MSCI's Global Investable Markets Indexes.
Strategy argues that this plan repeats a 2025 proposal that MSCI had already dropped, with different wording. According to the company, it breaks from U.S. accounting standards and securities law, as well as MSCI's own promise of staying neutral to the market.
JPMorgan analysts previously warned that an MSCI exclusion could lead to billions in fund outflows tied to Strategy's stock. They estimated that combined outflows across all indices could reach close to nine billion dollars if other index providers follow suit.
