Strategy in Desperate Bid to Reach $100 Par Value for STRC
Strategy, the company behind the popular Bitcoin-linked yield product STRC, is facing significant challenges in reaching its target of $100 par value. With roughly one week left to meet this goal, Strategy has spent over $635 million on aggressive buybacks, but the security remains stuck at around $97.
The company's financial machinery is running hot as it tries to close the final gap to par, with the economics of the buyback campaign deteriorating steadily. The initial strategy was to deploy more capital at deeper discounts and then scale back as the security approached $100, but instead, weekly spending has accelerated as the discount narrowed.
Strategy has also leaned heavily on its two largest sources of financial firepower: MSTR common stock and its Bitcoin holdings. Between late June and early August, the firm sold a net 6,916 Bitcoin to fund preferred-stock obligations and STRC repurchases, while last week it sold 4.53 million MSTR shares for $602.8 million in net proceeds.
The coming days will test whether Strategy's established investor base remains strong enough to replace its own purchases and eventually absorb fresh issuance at par. If outside demand does so as Strategy reduces buybacks, STRC can return to its intended role as a funding source for Bitcoin purchases. However, if demand weakens as issuer support fades and competing products attract capital, reaching $100 may prove easier than sustaining it.
