Strategy Inc.'s Bitcoin Holdings Sink to $8.2B Loss, Stock Surges
Strategy Inc., formerly known as MicroStrategy, reported an $8.22 billion net loss in its second quarter of 2026 due to a massive unrealized loss on its Bitcoin holdings.
The company's fair-value accounting rules require it to mark its Bitcoin holdings to current market prices each quarter, resulting in a $8.32 billion loss when Bitcoin prices declined during the quarter.
Despite this huge paper loss, Strategy's stock rose 4.4% as investors focused on the company's aggressive accumulation of digital assets and its ability to fund acquisitions through equity and debt markets.
The company grew its Bitcoin holdings by 11% during the quarter, acquiring approximately 83,901 Bitcoin, and raised $17.06 billion in capital year-to-date through at-the-market offerings.
