Strategy MSTR Shifts Bitcoin Stance, Raises Valuation Questions
Strategy (MSTR), a company that holds approximately 4% of all Bitcoin in existence, has made headlines recently due to comments from its CEO, Phong Le. In a shift from earlier informal remarks, Le stated that Strategy is willing to sell its Bitcoin holdings when necessary.
This clarification comes after a volatile period for the company, with a 40.77% one-month share price return following a year-to-date decline of 16.66%. Strategy's one-year total shareholder return has also taken a hit, down 60.48%, despite a strong three-year and five-year total shareholder return.
Analysts argue that the company's reset on Bitcoin liquidity clears the path for its equity to better reflect its treasury and software mix. However, others see Strategy as a leveraged proxy on volatile crypto, which could continue to impact its valuation.
