Strategy Resumes Bitcoin Accumulation with $370M Purchase
Strategy, a company known for its Bitcoin accumulation, has made another significant purchase of BTC. According to an 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Strategy acquired 4,603 Bitcoin at an average price of $80,318 per unit, bringing its total holdings to 845,050 BTC. This purchase was funded through the net proceeds of a common stock sale, which included allocating part of the funds to increase USD cash reserves and repurchase preferred STRC stock.
The acquisition marks Strategy's first reported corporate Bitcoin purchase in roughly two months, following a hint from executive chairman Michael Saylor that the firm was preparing to resume accumulation. The company has stated its intention to manage its capital structure to maintain flexibility while preserving cash liquidity. This includes using Bitcoin sales to fund dividends and adjusting the annual dividend rate on STRC.
The preferred stock's discount to its intended $100 par value, currently at 2.67%, can influence how effective it becomes as a fundraising tool. The company may need to adjust economics or terms to attract buyers and protect the instrument's pricing. This situation is being closely watched by investors, who are also monitoring the interaction between STRC pricing and Strategy's dividend and financing plans.
