Strategy Resumes Bitcoin Purchases with $369.7M Deal
Michael Saylor's company, Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR), has resumed buying Bitcoin. In the week of August 24-30, 2026, it purchased 4,603 BTC at $80,318 per coin for a total cost of $369.7 million. This latest acquisition brings Strategy's total holdings to 845,050 BTC, with an average cost basis of $75,412 per coin.
The company used part of the $602.8 million raised from common stock sales in August to fund this purchase. The money also covered preferred-stock buybacks and dividends. This move marks an end to a ten-week pause in Bitcoin purchases by Strategy, which had been selling around 7,000 BTC between June 30 and August 10 for prices ranging from $59,000 to $64,000 per coin.
Strategy's CEO, Phong Le, stated that the sales were intended to cover preferred dividends and reduce debt rather than signal a change in the company's long-term view of Bitcoin. The timing, however, means Strategy sold thousands of BTC below the $80,318 price it paid for its latest purchase on August 31.
The market is also attracting buyers beyond Strategy, with spot Bitcoin ETFs recording $3.52 billion in inflows in August 2026. This suggests that demand had begun picking up again, opening the market to institutional players and investors who previously had far fewer ways to access Bitcoin.
