Strategy Sees $1.4 Billion Bitcoin Profit Swing Amid Cryptocurrency Rally
Strategy, a company that holds a significant position in Bitcoin (BTC), has seen its unrealized profit on its cryptocurrency holdings increase to $1.4 billion. The shift is due to a sharp rally in the value of BTC, which has risen by nearly 22% over five consecutive trading sessions. As a result, Strategy's 840,447 BTC position now exceeds its average acquisition cost of $75,385 per Bitcoin.
This marks a significant change from July, when the company's Bitcoin holdings were carrying an unrealized loss of roughly $13 billion after falling to around $58,000. However, with BTC trading at around $78,500 according to CoinDesk, Strategy's balance sheet has swung back into profit.
Strategy has also adjusted its capital position during the downturn by selling approximately 6,916 BTC and increasing its U.S. dollar reserve to $4.8 billion. This provides a cushion of around 2.8 years' worth of coverage for dividend payments and other obligations. The company is simultaneously repurchasing its perpetual preferred stock (STRC) and has already bought back over one-third of its $1 billion authorized program.
