Strategy Sees $1.72B Unrealized Gain as Bitcoin Surges Above Acquisition Cost
Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy and the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holder, has seen its massive Bitcoin treasury swing back into unrealized profit. According to data from Arkham Intelligence, the company is now up approximately $1.72 billion due to Bitcoin trading above its average acquisition cost of around $75,385 per coin.
This turnaround marks a significant recovery for Strategy, which had earlier faced multi-billion-dollar paper losses exceeding $10 billion during Bitcoin's decline from its October peak near $126,000. To manage its financial obligations, the company sold roughly several thousand BTC in the weaker period, sparking discussions about its evolving treasury strategy and potential implications for institutional Bitcoin adoption.
The latest rebound has been fueled by a wave of short liquidations and renewed buying interest, with more than $1 billion in short liquidations in recent 24-hour periods contributing to the multi-day total exceeding $4 billion. Strategy's common stock has reacted positively to the improved Bitcoin position, climbing in recent sessions as investors focus on the company's leveraged exposure to the asset.
Saylor has maintained a high-conviction approach even through significant drawdowns, framing Bitcoin as a superior treasury reserve asset and accumulating large amounts of it. The company's ability to maintain its large Bitcoin position while managing its financial obligations will remain a key focus for investors, with the outlook closely tied to Bitcoin's volatility.
