Strategy Sells More Bitcoin at a Loss, But Insists on Its Long-Term Commitment
Strategy, a company that has been vocal about its commitment to Bitcoin, has sold off another 1,638 BTC at a loss. This brings the total number of coins sold in 2026 to 5,258, with combined losses totaling around $323 million. The average price per coin was $63,957, which is well below Strategy's aggregate cost basis of $75,419.
The sales took place between July 27 and August 2, with the proceeds going towards funding dividend payments on Strategy's preferred shares (STRC) and repurchasing those shares at a discount. The company has stated that it views these purchases as part of its broader capital management framework.
Strategy CEO Phong Le had previously framed the company's goal as increasing Bitcoin per share over time, not simply holding onto coins forever. This is in line with Michael Saylor's distinction between his personal advice to individual investors and the company's fiduciary obligations. Despite this, the sales continue to be a point of contention for some.
