Strategy Sells Over 6,900 Bitcoin as Market Conditions Worsen
Strategy, the publicly traded technology company and largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, has been selling its BTC stockpile since introducing its BTC Monetization Program in June. The program allows Strategy to sell BTC to fund dividends, replenish its cash reserve, and repurchase securities.
In a shift away from its strict buy-and-hold approach, Strategy began selling BTC as market conditions worsened in 2026. CEO Phong Le said the company would sell BTC when doing so would benefit shareholders, rather than issuing additional shares to pay dividends.
Strategy's falling share price also drove the decision to sell BTC. In May, its preferred stock fell below $100 per share, constraining the company's ability to issue new shares and fund Bitcoin purchases.
