Strategy Stock Soars as Bitcoin Rally Boosts Paper Gains
Strategy Inc., formerly known as MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR), has seen its stock price surge by 6.2% to $119.35 on Friday, following a rally in Bitcoin's price.
The company's large holdings of Bitcoin, worth an estimated $3.42 billion over their acquisition cost, have increased significantly due to the rise in Bitcoin's price to $79,463.
Strategy issued $333.7 million in new common stock last week, but did not use these funds to acquire any additional Bitcoins. Instead, the proceeds were used to meet preferred liabilities and boost liquidity.
This move has shifted Strategy from a leveraged Bitcoin play to a financing structure, where common shareholders take on new supply while management safeguards preferred securities.
Chief Executive Phong Le stated last week that Strategy plans to restart Bitcoin purchases, but for now, the company's focus is on using its available common stock issuance capacity to meet liabilities and improve liquidity support.
