Strategy Stocks Rise Despite $8 Billion Loss as Market Focuses on Growth
Strategy reported a net loss of $8.22 billion for Q2 2026, but its stock price rose by 4.41% on the same day. This disparity is due to an accounting entry, not a cash outflow. The company's Bitcoin holdings were marked to market at the end of Q2, resulting in an unrealized loss of $8.32 billion.
This loss was largely due to the decline in Bitcoin price during Q2. However, this is not a permanent figure as it reverses automatically if Bitcoin rises in Q3. Strategy's Bitcoin position carries an unrealized loss of around $9.7 billion at current prices, but that is still paper-based and not cash-flowed.
The market was reading a different set of numbers, focusing on the company's subscription revenue growth of 54% year-over-year and its USD reserve standing at $3.75 billion, approximately 25 months of preferred stock dividend coverage without selling a single Bitcoin.
