Strategy Suffers $8.2B Loss as BTC Price Continues Downward Spiral
Nasdaq-listed Strategy (MSTR), formerly MicroStrategy, reported an $8.22 billion net loss in Q2 2026 due to the falling price of BTC. The company's quarterly report cited the Bitcoin price crash as the reason for the loss, despite increasing its holdings by 11% to 843,775 BTC (≈$54.6 billion) and pausing buys for five weeks while raising capital and paying down debt.
The company's CEO Phong Le stated that Strategy strengthened its balance sheet during the quarter, but Chairman Michael Saylor emphasized the need to evolve their business model in light of muted BTC sentiment and market skepticism. BTC's price has dropped nearly 50% from its October 2025 all-time high of $126,080, currently trading at around $64,745 (down 26% YTD).
MSTR stock remains over 80% below its 2024 peak and is affected by investors' leveraged exposure to BTC, as the company's value declines when BTC's price falls.
