Strategy Surpasses S&P 500 Financial Firms in Reserve Capital, CEO Claims
Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, claims to have surpassed all S&P 500 financial firms in reserve capital, according to CEO Michael Saylor. This assertion pits Strategy against the heavyweights of the S&P 500: banks, insurance companies, asset managers, and more.
Saylor's proprietary 'Total Reserve Capital' metric bundles together the company's Bitcoin treasury and USD cash position into a single headline number. As of August 30, 2026, Strategy held approximately 845,050 BTC with an acquisition cost of about $63.73B, plus around $6.7B in cash.
This brings Strategy's 'Total Reserve Capital' to somewhere between $66B and $72.3B, depending on how you value certain assets. The only exception is Berkshire Hathaway, which holds roughly $365.5B in cash and Treasury bills as of June 30, 2026.
The company resumed its Bitcoin acquisition program shortly after making this claim, purchasing an additional 4,603 BTC for approximately $370M on August 31, 2026. This brought the total stash to its current level of 845,050 BTC, representing one of the largest concentrated bets in corporate history.
