Strategy Surpasses Tech Giants in Equity Issuance with $20.9 Billion
Strategy Inc., known for its bitcoin treasury management, has reached new heights in equity issuance. According to CEO Phong Le's chart, the company ranked fourth among the largest U.S. equity issuers in 2026, with $20.9 billion in common and preferred stock issued. This achievement surpasses some of America's top technology companies, including SpaceX, Alphabet (Google's parent company), and Intel.
Strategy's success is attributed to its repeated sales of MSTR common shares and several preferred stocks throughout the year. The company's at-the-market program allows it to raise capital in smaller installments, as seen in its latest Form 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. In one week alone, Strategy generated $602.8 million in net proceeds from Aug. 24 through Aug. 30, with $369.7 million of that going into bitcoin purchases.
The company's use of equity sales to fund its balance sheet is part of its broader Digital Credit Capital Framework. This framework enables management to shift between issuance and repurchases while maintaining a dollar reserve for preferred dividends and debt interest. As a result, Strategy has been able to manage its liquidity effectively and maintain its primary treasury asset, bitcoin.
While Strategy's scale distinguishes it from companies that allocate only a small portion of their reserves to cryptocurrency, the model also exposes shareholders to dilution and financing costs. The company is currently facing an MSCI index eligibility test that could affect its place in widely tracked global benchmarks.
