Strategy to Pour in $4B More in BTC Sales Than Initially Planned

Strategy, the world's largest Bitcoin treasury firm, plans to increase its Bitcoin sales fourfold from $1.25B to $5B. During an earnings report call on Thursday, Strategy's President and CEO Phong Le stated that they will sell Bitcoin for three reasons: to increase their U.S dollar reserve by up to $1.25B, to fund annual dividend payments linked to Stretch [STRC] and other preferred stocks, and to drive the repurchase programs of its stocks.

The company aims to bring its cash buffer to $5B, which is approximately 3 years of coverage, as recommended by JPMorgan analysts. However, the bank had urged the use of MSTR sales, not BTC, to achieve this target.

The planned crypto sales of $5.01B represent a significant increase from Strategy's initial Bitcoin monetization program set at $1.25B earlier in July. The move could put additional pressure on the Bitcoin market, particularly if the sales negatively impact market sentiment.
