Strategy to Sell Up to $5 Billion in Bitcoin Amid Quarterly Loss
Strategy Inc., led by Michael Saylor and his team, has announced that it will sell up to $5 billion worth of its Bitcoin holdings as part of a broader capital management plan. The move comes after the company reported an $8.22 billion quarterly net loss, which was largely driven by a digital-asset loss of $8.32 billion due to lower quarter-end valuations.
The company holds 843,775 BTC at an average cost of approximately $75,476 per coin, leaving its treasury below its aggregate purchase cost at current prices. The $5 billion ceiling represents a maximum across several capital programs, not a single planned transaction.
Management has emphasized the importance of prioritizing Strategy's price support, cash reserves, and debt flexibility over directing every new capital raise toward Bitcoin. They have also expressed their desire for flexibility when Bitcoin sales create better outcomes than equity issuance.
