Strategy Unveils New Metrics for Common Shareholders' True BTC Exposure
MicroStrategy's new financial metrics aim to give common shareholders a clearer view of the company's actual Bitcoin-backed value. The company, now known as Strategy, owns approximately 843,775 BTC, valued at roughly $58 billion based on current market prices. However, this figure does not represent the amount ultimately attributable to common shareholders due to lenders and preferred investor obligations totaling about $22 billion.
The revised disclosures highlight the financial cost of maintaining the company's leveraged Bitcoin strategy, with approximately $1.8 billion annually spent on interest payments and preferred stock dividends. To manage these obligations, Strategy established a dedicated cash reserve in December. The updated metrics also include 'amplification,' which measures how leverage increases both potential gains and losses for common shareholders.
The company's executive chairman, Michael Saylor, noted that evolving Bitcoin capital markets require 'a new financial language.' The long-term Bitcoin acquisition strategy remains unchanged, but the updated reporting gives investors greater transparency into how much of the company's Bitcoin holdings truly belong to common shareholders.
