Strategy Wallet Activity Sparks Sale Speculation Amid Dividend Cycle
Strategy's wallet moved 299.84 BTC on August 3, worth around $18.91 million. This transfer is the first movement from the wallet since Strategy sold 3,588 BTC for $216 million in multiple transactions between July 1 and July 5.
The sale carried significant weight beyond its size, as it resulted in a $203 million loss for the company. The move was made to help fund distributions on its STRC perpetual preferred stock rather than to change its long-term Bitcoin position.
Strategy had already hinted at the possibility of selling part of its holdings to cover STRC dividend payments during its first-quarter earnings call. The Q2 filings showed how sharply the numbers moved, with the company swinging from a $14 billion profit to an $8.2 billion loss for the quarter as Bitcoin's price pulled back.
While the 299.84 BTC move is small next to Strategy's total holdings, it lands on the heels of a quarter that tested investor confidence in the company's 'never sell' reputation. It also follows a pattern where dividend obligations rather than market timing drove past transfers.
