Strategy's $75 Billion Bitcoin Hoard: A Strategic Pivot or Retreat?
Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, has revealed its impressive Bitcoin holdings of 840,447 BTC as of August 23. The total value of this stash is a staggering $75 billion, which solidifies Strategy's position as the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin worldwide.
The average cost per Bitcoin acquired by Strategy stands at approximately $75,385, accounting for roughly 4% of the total 21 million Bitcoins that will ever exist. As of mid-August 2026, Bitcoin was trading around $77,000, resulting in unrealized gains of about $1.4 billion for Strategy's position.
Strategy has also demonstrated a strategic pivot by using its Bitcoin treasury as a liquid financial instrument rather than a vault. The company has sold a cumulative 6,948 BTC since May 2026, generating approximately $432.5 million in proceeds. These funds have primarily been allocated towards preferred stock buybacks and dividend obligations.
