Strategy's $8 Billion Loss and Coinbase's Revenue Miss Spark Crypto Market Concerns
The crypto market had one of its ugliest earnings weeks in history, with Strategy and Coinbase both reporting losses. Strategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, reported a net loss of $8.22 billion for Q2 2026, driven by an unrealized markdown on its digital assets.
This is not the first time Strategy has faced criticism over its cryptocurrency holdings. In 2017, it was accused of using its Bitcoin position to artificially inflate the price of the asset.
Coinbase also had a disappointing quarter, with revenue down 18.5% year-over-year and GAAP loss coming in at $1.36 per share. The company's stock fell around 6% after hours to about $153.
