Strategy's $8.2B Net Loss Highlights Risks of Holding onto Bitcoin
Strategy, a Bitcoin treasury company led by Michael Saylor, posted an $8.2 billion net loss in Q2 2026 due to an accounting loss on its BTC holdings.
The decline was caused by a sharp drop in the price of Bitcoin at the end of the quarter, resulting in a non-cash accounting loss.
Strategy did not sell any of its Bitcoins during this period, but the unrealized decline in digital assets reduced the value of its shares and increased volatility.
The company's revenue grew 6.9% year over year to $122.4 million, while gross profit reached $81.6 million with a 66.6% margin.
