Strategy, led by Chairman Michael Saylor, turned to artificial intelligence (AI) in early 2025 to explore new financing options for its Bitcoin accumulation. At that time, common-stock issuance and convertible bonds had become insufficient to meet the company's capital needs.

Saylor revealed on The Diary of a CEO podcast that they used AI to design a variable-rate preferred stock called STRC, which helped raise about $10.5 billion. Another related instrument, STRK, raised roughly $4 billion.

The result was a new financing channel alongside common equity and convertible debt markets, allowing Strategy to raise capital for Bitcoin purchases more efficiently.
