Strategy's Balance Sheet Strength Sparks Hope for Junk Rating Upgrade
Strategy, the largest Bitcoin treasury firm, has made significant strides in strengthening its balance sheet, potentially paving the way for an upgrade from its B- junk credit rating. The company's head of investor relations, Chaitanya Jain, highlighted the improvement in dollar liquidity, convertible debt, and capital-market access during a recent interview.
In just 11 months, Strategy has erased nearly $8 billion of net debt, with dollar liquidity increasing from $54 million to $6.54 billion as of September 7. This significant cushion would allow the company to fund interest and preferred dividends without relying on Bitcoin sales for approximately four years.
The improvement in convertible debt is also noteworthy, with Strategy reducing its outstanding balance from $8.21 billion to $6.71 billion after repurchasing $1.5 billion of its 0% convertible senior notes due 2029 at an 8% discount.
Despite the progress, Strategy's concentration risk remains a significant hurdle, as the company is still heavily exposed to Bitcoin. With 845,050 BTC acquired for $63.73 billion, Strategy continues to be vulnerable to sharp drawdowns in the asset's price.
