Strategy, an institutional investor, reported a staggering $8.22 billion net loss for the second quarter of this year. The company's Bitcoin holdings took a significant hit as prices plummeted, leaving its treasury underwater by roughly $8.9 billion.

The decline in Bitcoin value marked down Strategy's 843,775 coin stash from an initial cost basis of $63.69 billion to a current market value of $54.77 billion. This unrealized markdown accounted for nearly the entire loss reported by the company.

Strategy also saw its operating income drop significantly, from $14.03 billion in the same period last year to an operating loss of $8.33 billion this quarter.
