Strategy's Bitcoin Sales Contradict Saylor's Personal Stance
Michael Saylor, executive chairman of Strategy, stated on X that he has never sold his own Bitcoin. This declaration comes at a time when Strategy disclosed selling 1,638 BTC for US$104.73 million between July 27 and August 2, at an average price roughly 15% below what the company paid.
The sale was made at an average price of US$63,957 per coin, which is significantly lower than the company's average purchase price of US$75,419 per coin. This means that Strategy took a loss on every coin it sold.
According to the company's filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the proceeds from the sale went towards paying dividends on its preferred stock and repurchasing its STRC shares. The company's treasury holdings finished at 842,138 BTC on August 2, down from 847,363 in late June.
Saylor emphasized that his statement is based on his personal account, as director's personal Bitcoin falls outside the reporting rules. He has been an outspoken advocate for holding onto Bitcoin, and this stance is reflected in his own investment decisions.
