Strategy's Bitcoin Sell-Off Exceeds $100 Million Amid Dividend Pressures

Strategy, a company known for its staunch support of Bitcoin, has accumulated over $102 million in realized losses from selling BTC. This is in stark contrast to the company's long-held stance that it would never sell its Bitcoin holdings. The sales were made across five separate transactions between 2022 and this week.

The first sale occurred on December 22, 2022, when Strategy sold 704 BTC at a $9.6 million loss. This was followed by a series of smaller sales in May and June 2026, with the largest single disposal happening in June, where 3,588 BTC were sold at a $54.8 million loss.

The reason behind these sales is not due to a change in heart regarding Bitcoin's value, but rather due to the company's need to fund its fixed dividend payments and service debt. Strategy has authorized itself to sell Bitcoin under its Digital Credit Capital Framework, introduced in late June.
