Strategy's Shift in Bitcoin Treasury Strategy Sparks New Era in Corporate Crypto Management
Strategy, a company known for its large corporate Bitcoin reserve, has made another sale of 1,638 BTC for approximately $104.73 million, bringing its total remaining holdings to 842,138 BTC. This sale represents a significant shift in the company's approach to managing its Bitcoin treasury.
In the past, Strategy's strategy seemed almost mechanical: raise capital, buy more Bitcoin, and repeat. However, this rhythm changed in 2026, as the company began to use its Bitcoin holdings as part of an active capital-management system to balance preferred dividends, share repurchases, debt obligations, liquidity, and shareholder expectations.
The sale is notable not only because it represents a significant portion of Strategy's remaining reserves but also because it marks a new chapter in the company's approach to managing its Bitcoin assets. The company must now explain how those assets fit into operating cash flow, financing commitments, risk limits, and long-term corporate policy.
According to an official SEC filing, the proceeds from the sale were used to fund preferred-stock distributions and replenish a US-dollar reserve. The filing also described a programme that could generate up to $1.25 billion through additional Bitcoin sales to support that reserve.
