McKenzie believes that the decision not to license his film is due to a desire by these corporations to avoid incurring the wrath of the Trump administration, which has profited handsomely from cryptocurrency. 'If you're a corporation and you're trying to decide on the marginal value of buying an independent movie that you don't have to buy, and potentially incurring the wrath of the Trump administration, it's a pretty easy decision,' McKenzie says.
The film has earned around $150,000 during its limited theatrical run but will now be released through Eventive, a digital platform that specializes in helping indie films reach an audience. This move is seen as a way for McKenzie to bypass traditional gatekeepers and reach his target audience directly.
