StrongBlock Governance Hacked for $72K
A security incident occurred on StrongBlock's abandoned governance system, resulting in an attacker draining approximately $72,000 in STRONG and STRNGR tokens. According to Defimon Alerts, the attacker accumulated a majority of the voting power associated with STRONG, which had lost most of its value as activity around the project declined.
The attacker then submitted and approved a proposal that transferred control of StrongBlock's Governor proxy. This malicious proposal used the protocol's governance rules exactly as they were designed, turning the voting system into the mechanism behind the theft.
The incident highlights how inactive protocols can continue to present security risks, even after developers and community members stop actively monitoring them. Smart contracts, governance permissions, and token balances remain operational on-chain, making them vulnerable to attacks like this one.
