Sui Co-Founder Seeks Quantum-Safe Wallets Amid Coldcard Debacle
Kostas Chalkias, co-founder and chief cryptographer at Mysten Labs, has been working on an ambitious project to create affordable quantum-safe hardware wallets for the Sui blockchain.
The goal is to produce wallets with a target price of under $10 per quantum card key, with an NFC quantum signature that can be generated in 1-2 seconds. Chalkias took on this project using personal time outside his day job and has already set up a dedicated factory to manufacture the wallets at scale.
The motivation behind this project is not only to improve security but also to prevent potential disasters like the recent Coldcard hardware wallet issue, where a firmware flaw led to an estimated $130 million loss in cryptocurrency. Chalkias stated, 'What happened to Coldcard will NEVER happen to my people.'
