Sui Prepares Quantum-Safe Signatures Without Moving User Assets
Sui, a blockchain network, is planning to introduce post-quantum signatures without forcing users to move their assets to a new address. This means that existing users can switch to quantum-safe signers without transferring tokens or other assets.
The network will support two NIST-standardized post-quantum signature systems: ML-DSA-65 for normal accounts and SLH-DSA-SHA2-128s for higher-value vaults. Both are designed to resist attacks from large-scale quantum computers.
Sui's Account Aliases system allows users to maintain a set of authorized aliases, enabling another signer to authenticate transactions on behalf of the original address. When ML-DSA accounts become available, an existing account can authorize a post-quantum signer while retaining the same address.
